Vili Atoel

Sharlayan Sage

About (Post-Eorzea and Eastern Travel)

As they say, experience is the best teacher...and experience did Vili get.Vili's recent travels have taken him to Eorzea and the Far East. Within these lands, he's made enemies, friends, and lovers. Triumphs and blunders alike have shaped his young mind. While one might no longer find him easily tricked and naive...perhaps even jaded, he can still fall into bouts of indecisiveness about what he wants out of life. He's grown to be less proud, and much less judgmental of others now that he's broadened his mind. His naivety has been exchanged for self-imposed boundaries and wisdom. However, sometimes, old habits die hard.At the moment, this hard-working Viera is wasting away in Sharlayan, working in a life of monotony and routine. Vili is now up to his (very tall) ears in scholars and outdated academic settings that he thought he graduated from. Having been through experiences that would last several lifetimes, the Rava has unintentionally retreated home. He often thinks about leaving and starting anew...but would it work out? Is it worth the heartbreak and conflict all over again? One thing that Vili has yet to stomach is one simple truth in life -
To live is to suffer.

About (Early Life)

If one were to ask about Vili, only a very select few could tell you intimate details about him. Originating from Sharlayan, Vili held the belief that knowledge must be the main driving force in giving one purpose. His studies included a focus on history and aetherology. Prime areas of interest to him geographically speaking, included Dalmasca, Garlemald, Coerthas, as well as a few others. Despite being raised by academics, Vili didn't fully believe in some of their words and ideas as one would expect. Given his young age and lack of experience, some of his ideas were idealistic and arguably, romanticized and unrealistic. The easiest way to get him to talk was to make a claim he disagrees with. This one had a knack for debate (though it was usually thinly veiled as a discussion).Lack of real-world experience would've been obvious to most if one were to run into Vili away from the island nation and out of any place of study or knowledge. While he has no shortage of ambition and determination, doses of reality outside of Sharlayan have given him a change in his expectations and a more realistic grasp of the star and its inhabitants. Most of his time was spent in Sharlayan and visits anywhere else past its shores were rare for him.Speaking of his studies, he has devoted most of his life to them and certainly enjoyed it even if the individuals around him were stuffy. While he thrived in the field of academia and was known for his persistence and hard work among his peers, the rest of his life was less impressive. Between all the studies and the near-obsessive nature of wanting to get things right in his work, Vili had only gotten close with a few other scholars, and by no means was his circle of friends expansive. On the surface, he was well known and most thought positively of him, but not many could confidently go on to say that they were good friends with him. Environments such as these have certainly taken their toll. With no meaningful connections to depend on (except there being a few), Vili suffered from extreme bouts of loneliness which only further drove him towards his studies. If anyone showed a lick of interest in him, he would be beyond thrilled and would try his best to keep in contact with them- at the risk of looking a little desperate. He never publicly expressed how thrilled he was for the company of others and always kept it to himself. As time went on, he slowly accepted the fact that nobody ever truly sticks around. For that reason, he tried to hide his growing jaded self behind sarcasm and other forms of humor as well as developing a preference for being alone when given the chance. A sense of self-reliance and dependence on only oneself was slowly manifesting in this scholar. Of course, none of that is obviously apparent as Vili was the type of individual that could be described as one of the happiest people despite simultaneously being the saddest. It was easy to ignore his own internal issues when a friend was there to distract him and if not them, then his own books. Anything that could make him feel happier was a blessing for him.Dreary subjects aside, if you were to ask him about his interests and hobbies, the list would've be quite short. This is due to the fact that Vili didn't go out much, but there were a myriad of experiences he wouldn't mind trying.Overall, while his ideas were a little more on the naive side, Vili was good-natured and was known as being fiercely loyal to those who treated him well and expressed genuine interest when around him. His loyalty and kindness have been abused before he himself can figure it out. Sometimes he was too trusting and took risks without fully weighing them out. He gambled with the hope that most individuals are inherently good- unfortunately...he was wrong.

Vili's Stories and Questionable Scholarly Pursuits (WIP)

What Now?

The sun's brilliant rays had begun to die out across the skies over the island nation of Sharlayan. Thaliak's children were getting ready for a peaceful evening of sleep. As its lamps flickered on and the port's ships had begun to settle and bob upon the water, there would be an extraordinary few who would stay up, pursuing knowledge, no doubt. After a full day of tending to the wounded, debating and positing theories on how best to advance the field of somanoutics, and cursing the fact that there wasn't enough sleep had the night prior, a Rava had emerged from the doors of Physis Technon.By this time of night, the warm glow of Sharlayan's windows provided a little light to the sleepless and intrepid scholars that found themselves out in the cool air. The footfalls of the Viera that had emerged earlier echoed throughout the empty streets against the intricate paved roads. A mixture of leathers and cloths adorned him as he sported bright white colors- typical to that of a Sage. His brown hair and black-tipped ears bobbed as he walked towards his apartment. With heavy eyelids, the faint feeling of exhaustion tried to coax him to sleep right then and there in the middle of the road, but despite the seductive whisperings of it all, the Viera pressed on. His crystalline blue eyes nearly matched the deep, distant blue waters off of Sharlayan's coast. The nearby streetlamps did little to illuminate his tamarind-hued skin and as he passed the impressive halls of the Studium, he couldn't help but feel a pain. Some kind of hurt that welled within him- a doubt that evolved into despair and at rare times, anger and frustration.Misery hung about him as he neared the harbor. His thoughts of Eorzea & the Far East were mixed. Memories of lovers, enemies, and friends now long gone flooded his mind. After a grueling few years, the protective bubble that the Viera had returned to was now his prison once more. Just as it was when his naive and pretentious self sought to depart Sharlayan for adventures unknown all those years ago. To have returned felt like a smart choice. However, day after day did the monotony of it all reveal itself to him. The endless discussions and debates, the dry subject matter amongst scholars, and the same old sights...time and again. What scared him the most was that in retreating back to what he thought would be his island sanctuary, his memories of Eorzea & the Far East couldn't be forgotten...but the past year he spent here in Sharlayan, could. Chapters could be written in his mind of the peoples and feats he had accomplished when he was abroad whilst his activity here on the island would only be deserving of a footnote. Every interaction with his colleagues felt disingenuous and his bitterness had grown over time. Before he knew it, the growth and happiness he had achieved when away from his countrymen had all but disappeared. For all the steps he had taken forward into becoming a better person for himself and those around him, he had now taken every step back. The dull environment that bogged him down had him questioning everything- his surroundings, himself. With tears threatening to escape his now glossy eyes, he looked up and whispered- crying out softly and hoping for an answer to the question that had been tugging at him for many moons now."Is this all there is?"

Relationships (always a WIP)

Teruuji Kazarisho - A trustworthy and stoic friend to Vili. This particular Raen holds a special place in the Viera's heart. With the complication of being both a friend and a lover, their relationship has never been easy. However, they've been through thick and thin together and still continue to do so while remaining "friends".

Ariana Malave - A fellow academic who Vili met in Ishgard at the Forgotten Knight. He enjoys talking with her given that they're both scholars. She has a self-proclaimed knack for getting into trouble which interests him.

Mort the Porter - A smartass that annoys Vili to no end but is still admired by the Viera for his professionalism. There's nobody else he trusts with the delivery of sensitive materials. The two have certainly been through a lot more than just porting.

J'zask Orek - A talented and interesting Ul'dahn scholar, J'zask was one of the first academics he had met abroad after leaving Sharlayan. It was Vili's first time learning that there was such a thing as civilized and higher-learning individuals abroad. Having gone on drunken escapades and ruin delving together, J'zask remains an important academic that Vili thinks highly of.

Just make sure you discuss with him beforehand what your plans are. Communication is everything! Lore compliance is a must but bending and some interpretation is okay.Vili's writer would also like it if all writers were 18+ for the sake of exploring darker themes if they come up!

Hooks

The Viera always comes well stocked with his nouliths and a satchel that holds vials, salves, and other supplies as needed.Sharlayan - Vili has a soft spot for those who hail from his home. Tell him you're from Sharlayan and he'll likely already be inclined to be nice to you.History and Medicine - The Viera has a passion for both the humanities and the sciences. Bring up either and he'll twitch an ear or two in your direction.Ventures - Vili is always looking for the next adventure that would see his skills tested. If you're in need of a healer with not much keeping them tied, this is your man...or bun?The Call of Adventure - Vili's recent time in Sharlayan has made him longing for something more even if he finds a little comfort in the stability of his now mundane life. He'll pretend that he needs a lot of convincing but if your character has a worthy prospect to take him off the island...then he's all ears.Honorary Ishgardian - Having spent a good chunk of his time in Ishgard while doing his research, Vili finds the walls of Ishgard and its people to be comforting even if he's been met with disdain for being an outsider. Interested in Romance?

This list is a general guideline as to who Vili is generally attracted to and what he enjoys. There's no guarantee Vili will be automatically romanced if this guide is followed. Naturally occurring attraction within RP is this writer's preferred route. Even if your character doesn't fit completely, try and shoot your shot! Stranger things have happened.

ICOOC
-Prefers relationships with those who have a strong academic background or work with him in some aspect. However, opposites attract...-Vili is monogamous and requires that his partners are too. Polyamory is not up for debate (sorry)!
- Has a preference for Viera, Miqo'te, and Au Ra. However, other races aren't entirely off the table.- Lalafells won't be considered for a relationship with Vili.
-Enjoys the idea of romance with someone he's already been friends with and has adventured or spent significant time with (however, not required).-While Vili has done one-night stands before, ERP-focused storylines or senseless ERP won't be considered. Character dynamic is important.
-Dominant love language is touch.-Any intention or thoughts of romancing Vili should likely be mentioned, just in case! Communication is key.
-Likes those who listen to him about his passions and thoughts and in turn will do the same.-ERP is okay but must make sense for the characters or even the story.
-Enjoys having his ears toyed with. Will refrain from public displays of affection if in a professional setting.-Please don't attempt to make a character that will fit this list to a T. That would be metagaming and abuse of this page.
-Vili prefers others to be direct rather than left guessing or "playing hard to get" (as fun as it may be).-Vili is heterosexual and can be a massive flirt. This doesn't always mean he's interested.
